How to buy used safely. The number that matters is the total including shipping, which we add up for you. Then check the seller's feedback (shown on every listing), whether returns are accepted, and whether all original components are included (controllers, straps, batteries). Favour listings with photos of the actual headset, a note that it powers on, and that the lenses are clear. Remember eBay's Money Back Guarantee covers you if it arrives faulty or not as described. Prices refresh live from eBay and are cached briefly, so they are current to within a few minutes.

How to buy a used VR headset

Guard the lenses from sun damage. VR lenses can be permanently burned by sunlight if the headset was left where the sun shone through them, leaving a small melted spot that is always in view and cannot be repaired. Ask for photos looking straight into the lenses and check for scratches and burn marks. Also confirm the lens spacing adjusts if you need it to.

Controller drift and tracking. The controllers are a common failure point: joystick drift (the view or player moving on its own) develops with use, so ask the seller to confirm the sticks are true. Check the tracking cameras or sensors work and that both controllers pair and their buttons and triggers respond. Replacement controllers add cost, so a headset with faulty ones is worth less.

Platform, standalone and hygiene. Decide whether you want a standalone headset (no PC needed) or a PC-tethered one, as they suit different setups; confirm the model matches your gaming platform and that it has been reset and removed from the previous owner's account. The facial padding touches skin, so budget for a fresh, washable cover. Check the battery or cable and that the correct charger is included.

Value. A recent standalone headset with clean lenses and drift-free controllers is the value pick; walk away from sun-damaged lenses at any price.

Common questions

Where are these VR headset prices from?

Live eBay listings, the largest source of used and refurbished VR headsets. Pick a model and it fetches the current lowest-priced listings in real time.

Is it safe to buy a used VR headset?

Yes. Favour high-feedback sellers, prefer complete units with all controllers and straps, check that the headset powers on and the display shows no major scratches, and lean on eBay's Money Back Guarantee.

How much cheaper is used vs new?

Usually 60-70% below new. Current models hold value well; older generations drop sharply once new ones launch. Compare the live used price here against the manufacturer's current retail.

What should I check first?

Total price with shipping, seller feedback and sales count, returns policy, whether all original components are included (headset, controllers, straps, batteries), display condition, and whether original box and manual are present. Real photos of the actual headset matter most.

What VR headsets work best on different budgets?

Under 200: Meta Quest 2 remains solid for casual gaming. 200-400: Meta Quest 3S offers great value for mixed-reality. 300-500: Meta Quest 3, Quest Pro, PSVR2. 500+: Valve Index for PC enthusiasts, Apple Vision Pro for the premium experience. Used prices are considerably lower than new across all models.

Which VR headset has lost the most

Each headset as a percentage of its launch price. VR depreciates faster than any other category here, because a headset is only as good as the software still being shipped for it. Check that a model is still supported before buying, since an unsupported headset is a screen you strap to your face. Tap a model to see its listings.

Cheapest by model, at a glance

A daily snapshot of the lowest genuine eBay price for every model we track, and how good that price is right now versus its usual level, updated automatically. Prices last refreshed 12 October 2026. Tap a price to see that model's cheapest listings on eBay, or tap a model name for the full live list here.

These are second hand prices, listed by sellers as used or pre-owned, taken from live eBay US listings in US dollars. In collectible categories a sealed or unworn item is sometimes the cheapest genuine listing, and it is included. The same number works both ways: it is what a buyer pays today and the resale value a seller can realistically ask. Every model also carries a price history, the daily record kept since tracking began, which is the part to read before you buy or resell. On a day when a model has no listing that passes these filters, its row keeps the last price we recorded rather than inventing one, and drops off this table if that goes on for more than a few days.

Under each model is the actual listing that price came from, so you can see whether it is the thing you want or a bundle, a variant, or an accessory that happens to share the name.

"Off retail" compares today's used price with what the model costs new. For anything still on sale that is its current new price, so the figure is close to a discount you could really get. For anything no longer sold it is the last new price we have on record: on a boxed product like a LEGO set or a console that is the RRP, and on a part like a graphics card it is nearer what new stock was going for at the end than what it cost at launch. So on older hardware read it as depreciation against late retail rather than against the original sticker. A few rows read "above" instead: they cost more used than new, which is normal for a retired set or a part nobody makes any more.

Over the period we have tracked, this category is down 1.9%, while the used market as a whole is down 0.3%. See the Used Price Index, which is built from these prices and published as a free CSV.
