Cheapest used golf rangefinders on eBay, live right now.

Pick a rangefinder and see the lowest current prices on eBay. These get replaced every couple of seasons by people chasing the newest model, so last year's flagship is usually the value buy. Prices are pulled live, so what you see is what sellers are asking this minute.

Check whether slope can be switched OFF, not just whether it has slope. A rangefinder that measures slope is not legal in tournament play unless the slope function can be visibly disabled, which is why models like the Tour V5 Shift have a physical switch and a coloured band that shows it is off. If you play competitively, a unit with slope that cannot be turned off is unusable in a round that counts. Then check the battery door and the eyecup, the two parts that break, and whether the case is included, since these live in a golf bag and a bare unit gets knocked about.

How to buy a used golf rangefinder

Slope is the whole decision, and the question is whether it switches off. Slope-adjusted distance is not conforming for tournament play. The rules allow a device that has the feature as long as it is disabled in a way an official can see, which is what the external switch and the coloured band on models like the Tour V5 Shift are for. A unit whose slope lives in a menu, or cannot be turned off at all, is fine for casual golf and unusable in a competition.

Laser and GPS are different tools and the listings blur them. A laser measures to what you point it at and needs a steady hand. A GPS unit knows the course and gives you front, middle and back without aiming. The Garmin Approach Z82 is both, which is why it costs what it does. Decide which you actually want before shopping on price, because the cheap end of this page is all laser.

Stabilisation matters more than magnification. Almost everything here is 6x, and at that power a shaky hand is what stops you locking onto a flag at 200 yards, not the glass. The Nikon Coolshot Pro Stabilized exists for exactly this reason and is worth the premium if you have ever struggled to hold a pin.

The battery door and the eyecup are what fail. The optics and the laser are solid state and effectively permanent, but the door is a small hinged plastic part that gets levered open with cold hands, and the rubber eyecup perishes and tears. Both are cheap on some models and unobtainable on older ones, so look at the photos rather than the description.

Ask whether it locks on, not whether it works. Every one of these will show a number. The useful test is whether it confirms a lock on a flag, which is the vibration pulse on a Bushnell or the red ring on a Precision Pro. A unit that ranges the trees behind the green and reports it confidently is worse than no rangefinder.

A magnetic cart mount is a feature, not an accessory. Several models have magnets built into the housing so the unit sticks to the cart frame. It is genuinely useful and it is part of the product, so a listing mentioning it is not selling you a mount.

Common questions

Where do these prices come from?

Live eBay listings. Pick a model and it fetches the current lowest-priced listings in real time, with the listing shown beside each price, so nothing here is an estimate.

Is a slope rangefinder legal in competition?

Only if the slope function can be switched off in a way that is visible. That is what the external switch and coloured band on models like the Tour V5 Shift are for. A unit with slope buried in a menu, or with no way to disable it, is not conforming for a round that counts.

Laser or GPS?

A laser measures to whatever you aim at and needs a steady hand. A GPS knows the course and gives front, middle and back without aiming. The Garmin Approach Z82 does both, which is why it sits at the top of this page. The cheap end is all laser.

Does magnification matter?

Less than you would think. Nearly everything here is 6x, so the real variable is whether you can hold it steady enough to lock a flag at distance. That is what image stabilisation solves, and why the Nikon Coolshot Pro Stabilized costs more than its specs suggest.

What breaks on a used rangefinder?

The battery door and the rubber eyecup, in that order. The optics and laser are solid state and last. Check the photos for a cracked hinge or a torn eyecup, because replacements are cheap on current models and impossible on older ones.

Is the case included?

Sometimes, and sellers usually say either way because buyers ask. It matters more here than in most categories, since these live in a golf bag. A bare unit is worth a little less and a replacement case is easy to find for current models.

How do I know it still locks on?

Ask the seller to confirm the lock indicator works, the vibration pulse on a Bushnell or the ring on a Precision Pro. Any working unit shows a number; the question is whether it is ranging the flag or the trees behind it.
